What an amazing display this was. On Saturday, October 13, Camross was filled with over a hundred trucks and numerous tractors, raising much-needed funds for Down Syndrome Laois Branch.
Locals and visitors raised the roof in Bergin’s afterwards for a large barbecue and music with a large raffle on the night.
The DSI Laois branch took to Facebook to thank all those involved.
“Some night last night folks. What a great community spirit, amazing turnout of Trucks, Tractors and spectators. Our sincere thanks to Barry Cuddy and his committee for organising such a spectacular event on behalf of our DSI Laois Branch” members
“Our thanks also to all the sponsors and anyone who helped out in any way to make this event the huge success that it was. Gives great hope for the future of our members in Laois. Please remember, all funds raised in Laois stays in Laois for the benefit of our members here in Laois,” they said.
Field of Dreams
The funds raised are going towards the Laois Branch ‘Field of Dreams’.
The ‘Field of Dreams’ is a Training Centre of Excellence for adult members for DSI Laois, leading to meaningful paid employment and social inclusion.
It aims benefit all our members throughout their life cycle and we depend on the generosity of the people of Laois to make this dream a reality.
Abbeyleix will be the site for the ‘Field of Dreams’ and will be used as a sheltered employment training centre of excellence for adult members of Laois Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI).
There is a ‘use it or lose it’ clause to the lease, followed by a 25-year lease if used thereafter.
PRO of the Laois Down Syndrome Ireland branch, Michael Gorman, is extremely excited about the upcoming project.
“This project is an opportunity for our adults to play a meaningful role in our community here in Laois in terms of paid employment as well as providing other vital Services and supports that will enhance our ‘Cradle to Grave Philosophy’ – providing these services and supports throughout the life cycle of our members.
“So please come along and support us to make a physical difference to the mental health and well-being of our adult population in Laois by giving them a reason to get up in the morning through meaningful paid employment in the county,” he added.
Laois DSI made a PowerPoint presentation to the full chamber of Laois County Council in May 2017 and received huge support from all county councillors present.
