Changing times are coming for the Laois Citizens Information Service.
Laois Citizens Information Service (CIS) provides free and confidential information, advice and advocacy services to the people of Laois and its surrounds.
The service operates from its main information centre in Portlaoise and also provides an Out-reach Service in Portarlington, Mountmellick and the Cuisle Centre for cancer support.
They have also delivered an In-reach Service to the two prisons in Portlaoise since 2001.
Information is provided by a mix of paid staff, CE workers and volunteers and managed by a Development Manager who is responsible for the day-to-day running of the service.
To date, the Development Manager reported to a voluntary Board who meet 6 times yearly to track the progress of the service and to support the development of new initiatives.
Going Forward
Going forward Portlaoise CIC will continue to deliver the same service to the public but our management structure changes from October 1st 2018.
Laois CIS will be part of South Leinster CIS and the Board in Laois will no longer exist. Portlaoise CIC will serve the Laois area of South Leinster CIS.
The final Board meeting of Co Laois CIS was held on Thursday, October 4. Following the formal proceedings, presentations were made to the recent Board, followed by light refreshments.
This was indeed a sad farewell to a structure which has supported the on-going development of the Citizens Information Service in our Community. Pat Fitzpatrick, outgoing Chairman wished the service well in the future and thanked all recent and former Board members for their enormous contribution to the service.
