What a weekend that was!
O’Dempsey’s ended their 35-year wait for a Laois senior football final appearance, Courtwood won the intermediate title for the first time since 1987 and Annanough claimed their first silverware in 40 years when they claimed the junior crown on Saturday.
All of that is up for discussion in our latest Laois GAA podcast, presented by Brian Moss with Steven Miller and Alan Hartnett as the two guests.
The joyous celebrations in Annanough and Courtwood are discussed at length while there is also a special mention for O’Dempsey’s who will play in their first senior final since 1983 after they got the better of Graiguecullen.
With Portlaoise in an 12th final in a row and going for an 11th title from those appearances, we ask have O’Dempsey’s any chance?
We also discuss the main talking point from the Portlaoise-St Joseph’s semi-final – the red cards dished out to Bruno McCormack and Enda Butler and a possible suspension that would rule McCormack out of the final.
And as well as that, we chat about the new area competition that will begin in the coming weeks, the future of the Gaels teams and Steven’s theory on how he sees potential in a ‘North Laois’ regional side that could play in the senior championship.
Alan draws attention to the young players now arriving onto the adult scene – those born in the year 2000 and were denied from having a Laois minor team to play on because of the change in the age grades for that competition. Many of them made a big impact at the weekend.
