The regeneration of Hepburn Court was discussed a length at the recent Portlaoise Municipal District meeting on Wednesday, Spetember 26.
Councillor Caroline Dwane Stanley asked the council to give an update on, “the progress made with the regeneration of Hepburn Court and the adjoining field.”
A written response by Senior Engineering Officer for Housing, Michael Rainey, said: “The preliminary design has been completed showing the potential for 54 new housing units.”
Demolition of derelict buildings
He added that the Housing Section is preparing a tender to demolish the squash club, Kingdom hall and the derelict residential units in the estate.
Cllr Dwane Stanley said that Hepburn Court is, ‘a complete eyesore at the moment’ and residents have, ‘endured fierce problems’ caused by anti-social behaviour there.
Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald added that, “Families on the Ballyfin Rd and at Mountain View have had enough.”
