Two hundred and sixty people have presented as homeless to Laois County Council so far this year.
These figures come from a Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) report on homeless figures in the county for the first, second and third quarters of 2018.
Out of these 260 people, 103 were single men, while 60 were single females. Twenty couples reported as homeless while 36 couples with children presented as homeless.
Forty single women with children presented as homeless while one single male with children presented as homeless.
Of the 260 people, 45 were placed in emergency accommodation, with 42 staying in B&Bs and three in hostels.
Figures growing steadily throughout the year
Between January to March, 71 people presented as homeless to Laois County Council. This grew to 93 people in the second quarter and 96 people in the third quarter.
Councillor Caroline Dwane Stanley raised issues about the figures, as a single male with a child was marked down as only one person.
Cllr Dwane Stanley said: “How many children are homeless? I wanted to see if they were recorded in those presenting as homeless.”
Between January to March, 12 people were placed in B&Bs, this increased to 16 in quarter two and 24 in the third quarter of this year.
