A Laois school has been granted permission for a planned extension by Laois County Council.
St Colman’s NS in Stradbally has been granted the application for the building of two classrooms, which principal Mr Andy Hanrahan hopes will be completed by September 2019.
New ASD units
“The buiilding is for the two new ASD units. We had our first ever ASD unit last year and added another ASD unit this September,” said Mr Hanrahan.
ASD Units cater for the needs of children with Autism or on the Autism spectrum. The 264 pupil school already has 10 mainstream classrooms and five classes for SED classes and special needs assistants.
The two new classrooms are going to be built where the existing staff car park is, while plans to move the car park are put in place.
“It is hugely needed,” said Mr Hanrahan. The process is now going out to tender with hopes that the project will be completed for the next school year.
