The opening time for tomorrow’s National Ploughing Championships will be delayed.
A statement said: “Due to the passage of storm Ally through the midlands between 8am and 10am tomorrow morning Wednesday, Sept 19th, and in the interest of public safety the NPA have decided to delay the opening of the exhibition arena of the National Ploughing Championships for the general public until 11.00am.
“It will remain open an extra hour in the evening until 7.00pm. National Ploughing classes will commence as scheduled at 10.30am.
The news comes after Met Eireann upgraded their weather warning to Status Orange.
They say: “Storm Ali will bring very windy conditions to all areas tomorrow with strong to gale force south to southwest winds later veering westerly.
“There will be severe or possibly damaging gusts for a time in the morning.
“Storm Ali will track close to the west and northwest coast from the early hours of Wednesday morning.
“South to southwest winds veering westerly will increase to mean speeds between 65 and 80 km/h with gusts between 110 and 120 km/h for a time.
“The core of strong winds will be along Atlantic Coasts at first and will then move quickly eastwards during the morning.
“The warning is in place from 5am to 1pm.”
