One of Portlaoise’s most popular pubs is set to close its doors this weekend.
The Office Bar & Venue on Main Street in the town is set to finish serving on Sunday evening.
A statement on the pub’s Facebook page informed customers of the closure.
It read: “So after some great nights we have decided to close the doors of The Office Bar.
“We have really enjoyed meeting some fantastic people and are proud to have shared some great experiences with you all.
“As a token of or appreciation all drink will be €3 for tonight and remainder of the weekend (while stock lasts).
“Hope to see you all. A massive thanks to you all for your support throughout.”
The Office Bar and Venue is currently being offered for sale by John F O’Brien in Elite Estate Agents – it initially had an asking price of €500,000 when it hit the market first last spring but that has since been changed to €350,000.
The bar is currently leased and run by David Finn, who also owns the Blow Dry Parlour in Lyster Square.
The two-storey premises extends to almost 4,000 square foot in total with the upstairs comprised of a self-contained unit of almost 1,000 square foot with separate access to Main Street.
The premises in question has had a number of different owners and names over the years. Prior to being the Office Bar, it was De Bruns, and before that Silvers and Cloisters – with Peig’s, owned by George Plunkett, also having a stint there before it moved its current home in Market Square.
