An event to commemorate the visit of the Rainbow People to Ballyhupahaun took place at the Hare’s corner and MDA Centre in Mountmellick recently.
The event was held as part of Heritage Week which occurred at the end of August.
Back in 1993, thousands of people with dreadlocks and florescent clothes and ‘flower power’ messages and ban-the-bomb insignia on the sides of VW vans travelled through Mountmellick out to Rosenallis.
It was remarkable time which drew huge media attention as these people from a whole different world rolled into the quaint townsland of Ballyhupahuan.
So 25 years on, to celebrate the historic visit, yoga, a talking circle, a drumming circle, herbal teas and medicines were all held.
And eco-friendly and family-friendly event took place at Hare’s Corner.
The event finished up with a chanting ceremony and afterwards there was a ‘Rainbow Unplugged’ music and story-telling session in the Druid Inn in Mountmellick.
