Portlaoise’s newest secondary school opened its doors to begin its second academic year this morning.
Dunamase College is located in the centre of Portlaoise town on Railway Street and is strongly technology focused.
Principal Aoife Elster revealed that the number of students in the school has now doubled to 80.
She said: “It was great to see all of the new faces coming in the door and smiling this morning.
“We have 80 students enrolled now between first and second years and we have four extra teachers as a result.”
The Railway Street building is a temporary location for the next number of years until a permanent location is secured by the Department of Education.
Principal Aoife Elster confirmed to LaoisToday that a number of sites in Portlaoise are currently being looked at.
She said: “There has been no progress on this but we are hoping for news this year.
“We are very happy with the state of the art building that we are in at present. Students and teachers are well set up here.”
Our photographer Julie Anne Miller went along this morning and snapped the new students.
