Laois TD Brian Stanley has claimed that a leaked memo from the Dublin/Midlands Hospital Group highlights ‘clear attempts within the upper echelons of the HSE to remove all critical services by 1000 cuts.’
Deputy Stanley spoke about the possible removal of the ICU Unit.
“If the ICU Unit is removed it completely undermines other critical services at the hospital. This is clearly the latest move within senior HSE management to downgrade the hospital,” Deputy Stanley.
‘We need a long-term plan’
“Instead of shuffling memos around their offices designed to undermine Portlaoise, what we need is a long term plan for the future of the hospital.
“It is now essential that the consultation on the hospital, with local interest groups, which was ordered by Minister Harris following the meeting with the 3 local TD’s is carried out and completed as soon as possible,” the Sinn Féin Deputy concluded.
