Wow. This surely must be a first for schools in Laois.
A remarkable three Laois students have received top marks in their Leaving Cert results, which were released today.
Christopher Carew, Katy White and Luan Fletcher Calt all obtained 625 points in their respective Leaving Cert results today.
All three are Portlaoise residents, with Christopher and Katy attending the same school, Mountrath CS, while Luan attended St Mary’s CBS Portlaoise.
Where will these bright minds go?
Christopher hopes to do medicine in UCD, while Katy hopes to also do medicine in Trinity College and Luan will join her as he plans to study mathematics in Trinity College.
Speaking to LaoisToday, Katy said: “I was so delighted I couldn’t believe it.
“I was happy with the mocks but I thought the actual Leaving Cert was harder, I went out of a few exams and was convinced I had messed up!”
After studying Biology, Chemistry and Physics, medicine felt like a natural choice for science-loving Katy, with her and classmate Christopher receiving their HPAT results in June.
Luan has another wait too, this time to see if his application for a €20,000 Naughton Scholarship is successful, awarded to top achieving students going on to study STEM subjects.
A total of 910 students received the Leaving Cert results all over Laois today.
