Another Sunday, another hectic schedule of local championship action.
Football is the focus this weekend and today sees six games down for decision – two senior double headers in O’Moore Park and two standalone intermediate games at 12.30, one in Portarlington and one in Ratheniska.
The first double header sees 2016 champions Stradbally meet Clonaslee St Manman’s Gaels, a game that has a local derby element given the involvement of a number of Annanough players with the Clonaslee set up. That throws in at 12.30pm.
Stradbally and Clonaslee both lost their opening round games – to Arles-Kilcruise and Killeshin respectively – and need a win here to remain in the championship.
The losers will be in a relegation playoff for the second year running, or the third in Clonaslee’s case.
The second game sees the meeting of Arles-Kilcruise and Emo, two of the more impressive Round 1 winners, even if Emo did require a replay to see off Arles-Killeen.
The two intermediate games sees The Rock and Rosenallis clash in a derby in Portarlington at 12.30, both coming off the back of good Round 1 wins.
The Rock narrowly saw off Barrowhouse in their first outing while Rosenallis were big winners over Portlaoise.
The other game is Mountmellick v Barrowhouse in Ratheniska in what is a first championship meeting between the clubs in a long number of years. Mountmellick were defeated by Courtwood in Round 1 while Barrowhouse lost to The Rock.
There is also another double header in O’Moore Park this evening – and we will be covering that in a separate blog.
For now, though, you can follow all of the action below:
