Laois fares very badly when it comes to the number of women availing of the cervical screening.
In fact, Laois has had the lowest cervical cancer screening uptake in the country.
The latest National Healthcare Quality Reporting Systems publication shows that just over 7 out of 10 of people in the county engaged with the programme between 2011 and 2016.
In comparison with our neighbours, Laois is performing very badly.
In Offaly, more than three quarters of women had the screening, with Westmeath having the highest uptake in the Midlands at 87 percent.
It comes as the Health Minister plans to introduce the general scheme of the Patient Safety Bill later today on the back of the scandal.
This is to ensure patients will be told if they’ve been affected by a safety breach.
