Portlaoise Musical Society claim success at the Amateur Irish Musical Society Awards

Musical

Following the tremendous success of their last production Rock of Ages in the Dunamaise Theatre, Portlaoise Musical Society were awarded two nominations in the Amateur Irish Musical Society (AIMS) Awards which were held in Killarney over the weekend.

A large contingent of members travelled down to partake in the festivities and were rewarded with the overall Best Visual Show in the ‘Sullivan’ section along with the runners up award in the Best Technical Show category.

To those who attended the shows, this was no great surprise as the vision, professionalism and expertise of the production team, led by the legendary Paul ‘Nippy’ Norton Director along with Emer Hartnett Musical Director, and Grace McGrath Choreographer shone through as they filled the Dunamaise Theatre for nine shows.

The production was further enhanced by the fabulous set design, lighting, sound, costume, special effects, backstage & front of house teams and of course the wonderful talent that oozed from the cast of the show.

This year Portlaoise Musical Society will be celebrating twenty years of productions that entertained audiences all over Laois and neighbouring counties.

As part of this celebration, a fundraising concert to raise funds for this year’s show ‘Titanic’ will be held over two nights on the Friday/Saturday, August 24/25 in the Dunamaise Theatre, Portlaoise.

The concert will include old favourites from the different shows and feature past and present members along with special guests. Tickets can be purchased by contacting the Dunamaise Theatre on 057 8663355 or visit www.dunamaise.ie.
