Parts of Laois have been recorded at temperatures of 29 degrees, making it the hottest area in the midlands.
Met Eireann have a Status Yellow high temperature warning in place across the country, but Carlow weatherman Alan O’Reilly said yesterday he “wouldn’t be surprised if the weather warning isn’t upgraded to Orange.”
Met Éireann have said the weather tomorrow will be dry and warm. Highest temperatures of 27 to 30 degrees inland with sea breezes keeping coastal temperatures at around 21 to 24 degrees.
The Health and Safety Authority released a statement on their Facebook page warning employers to remain vigilant regarding the Status Yellow warning.
The post encouraged employers to exercise common sense and if a “formal dress code is the norm it might be appropriate to relax it during the high temperatures. Plenty of fresh water should be provided and employers might consider placing fans in appropriate locations.
“For outdoor workers, the situation is potentially much more serious. Appropriate clothing should be worn to protect from UV rays and sunscreen should be regularly applied.”
The HSE have also warned to stay out of the sun between the hours of 11am and 3pm when the weather will be at its most dangerous.
They advise to pay close attention to the elderly, very young and vulnerable in this heat.
Met Éireann have said that while the yellow warning is currently in place on Friday, temperatures may remain in the mid twenties, possibly higher in some areas on Saturday and through to Sunday.
