This promises to be a great event.
To celebrate Independent Beer Week, David and Lisa Walsh-Kemmis are hosting an event at the home of the award-winning Ballykilcavan beers, just outside Stradbally on Saturday June 23 at 7pm.
David explains: “Independent Beer Week is a showcase of small independent Irish breweries. We wanted to take the opportunity to show people around the 230 year old stone farmyard where we’re currently installing our own brewery.”
A medley of activities
The evening plays host to food, beer and even axe throwing. There will be pulled pork, hot dogs and a vegetarian chilli, all prepared by Bernard Gibney, the multi-award winning owner of Gibney’s Garden Preserves from Kildare Town.
David will be pouring the three Ballykilcavan beers, and conducting a tour of the farm, from the old stone yards to the new brewery building at 7.30pm.
There will also an axe throwing stand, run by the Irish Axe throwing club, so visitors will be able to hone their skills under the watchful eye of the champion throwers who describe it as being, “An activity that is suitable for all ages, all fitness levels and all types of people.”
Work is on-going at Ballykilcavan on restoring an old stone grain store in the farmyard and adding a new office area to it.
The brewing kit is due on site in six weeks, and David expects to be brewing on the farm later this year.
It’s a free event, but voluntary donations for the Midlands Simon community will be gratefully accepted. Ballykilcavan is situated on the left, 2km out the Athy road (R428) from Stradbally.
