It has emerged that a second property was sold for almost €600,000 in Laois this month, pipping the €580,000 achieved for a house in Portarlington in the past week.
At the start of the month, a stunning house in Castletown sold for the impressive sum of €590,000 – the largest price achieved so far this year.
‘Cluain Ard’ was described by the auctioneers as a beautiful family home on private grounds ideally located close to a range of destinations and M7 Motorway.
The sale was handled by joint agent PJ Delaney Auctioneer.
Built in the late 1990s by the current owner, the property’s elevated setting on Pilgrimhill provides unimpeded views of the surrounding countryside and of the Slieve Bloom Mountain range, according to the auctioneers.
The house is 4,500 sq.ft in size.
It features a number of reception rooms, 5 bedrooms (3 ensuite) and ancillary spaces.
The price achieved was €10,000 above the recently sold Corrig property in Portarlington, which exceeded its asking price by €200,000.
Both the properties at Castletown and Portarlington far outstrip the next highest priced house in the county sold this year.
The previous highest price achieved this year was €460,000 for a detached split-level stone bungalow – Corrig in Stradbally which achieved that price in March.
Houses selling in excess of €500,000 in Laois are rare.
A home in Cappakeel in Emo sold for €590,000 in January of last year.
That was one of only three properties in Laois to sell for over €500,000 during 2017 – one in Rathleash in Killenard for just over €517,000 in March and one in Moyne, Durrow, for €500,000 in December.
