Our guide to what’s on this bank holiday weekend

This Bank Holiday weekend looks set to become one of the biggest weekends of the year so far, and with weather like this, Laois people are making the most of getting out and about for the four days.

There are plenty of sports fixtures to entertain the crowds too in what is sure to be a cracking weekend.

FRIDAY 1 JUNE

Laois Fleadh

Mountmellick Comhaltas is hosting this year’s Laois Fleadh on Friday 1, Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 June.

SATURDAY 2 JUNE

Ballyroan Country Music festival

There will be plenty of craic stirring around Ballyroan again this June Bank Holiday Weekend as the Ballyroan Country Festival is set for its third year. The festival kicks off on the Saturday, with the first act taking to stage in Ballyroan GAA shortly after 7.30pm.

80’s Disco

The Heath ladies footballers are holding an 80’s disco with Cecil Carter in Grellan Delaneys, Portlaoise tonight.

Gordon Bennett rally

The Gordon Bennett Rally takes place on Saturday, Sunday and Monday in Laois and nearby counties, starting at Treacy’s every morning.

June Parish social

The Camross monthly parish social will be held in the parish centre, with music by Footloose. Doors open at 9pm.

SUNDAY 3 JUNE

Liam Kealy memorial run

A memorial 5km and 10km run/walk for the late Liam Kealy will take place on Sunday, June 3. Both the 5km and 10km will start at Ballylinan Clubhouse at 1pm. The 5km route will go through the village, while the 10km route will go out the Carlow road.

Barrowhouse Killeen tractor run

The sixth annual Barrowhouse Killeen tractor run leaves from Farrell’s bar, Killeen, at 1.30pm

Unique road hurling tournament sets up sticks in Borris-Kilcotton

The annual Road Hurling Tournament gets underway from Killasmeestia church at 3pm. For more information see here.

Slieve Bloom walks

The latest Slieve Bloom walk of Brittas Lake and Clonaslee Woodland leaves from Clonaslee community at 11am. This is a 12km (four hour) walk.
