Portlaoise’s Kieran Lillis was Laois minor captain in 2009 and since he broke into the senior team, he has played in a number of different positions.
Lillis has popped up at full back, corner back, centre back, wing back and now finds himself partnering John O’Loughlin in midfield.
His manager is thrilled to have someone as versatile as him in the team but feels he has now found his home.
Sugrue said: “Kieran has taken on his role and job within the team and done it well.
“We are trying to get fellas to play together and play as a unit and play as a team. And once they do that, and play with a team ethos, we will see where we go with them.”
Laois now look forward to a Leinster semi final against Carlow on June 10 and Sugrue says this is a reward for their hard work.
He said: “It is a great place to be in and it is a reward for these fellas. We have got to enjoy this win and then set ourselves again to see how far we can go.
“We set out as a group at the start to be different. And we can be more different. We are not going to pull the handbrake at this stage.
“The lads are starting to play a bit now and if can keep our concentration high, we will go after this.
“To be fair to them, they are trying to do the best with what we put in front of them. If we keep it going and keep our concentration high, we can be more different.”
