The people of Ireland and Laois have voted to Repeal the Eight Amendment.
The official result for Laois is now in and the people have voted Yes by 61.4% to 38.6%.
The turnout was 62% which is in line with the other constituencies who have declared so far.
Our neighbours in Carlow-Kilkenny have also overwhelmingly voted Yes. 63.5% of the people that voted said Yes while 36.5% voted No.
In Kildare South, the result was even more emphatic. 70.7% of voters said Yes while 29.3% said No.
The full result for the whole country is set to be announced later today when all of the votes have been counted.
The picture became clear last night when two opinion polls were released which surprised many people.
An exit poll conducted for The Irish Times by Ipsos/MRBI predicted that the margin of victory for the Yes side in the referendum would be 68 per cent to 32 per cent.
And this was once again reflected by an RTE poll which showed 69.4 per cent Yes and 30.6 per cent No.
Interestingly, the figures announced by the Irish Times last night are the same as the poll that we carried out among our readers earlier in the week.
Check out RTE’s Results Centre for a full break down of how each constituency voted.
