A large crowd gathered in Vicarstown on Sunday evening for the official launch of the SVT Community Sports Hub Canoeing and Kayaking club.
The club, which was set up last month to help boost tourism, has activities which take place every Saturday and Sunday.
The sun shone brightly along the canal and the craic was mighty as hundreds turned up to mark the occasion.
Punters could try Canadian canoeing, sit on top kayaks and try out the brand new stand up paddleboards all for free on the day.
They were joined by the SVT walking group who completed their 75km challenge.
They have been trekking across Laois for the last number of weekends and concluded with the final 29km walk from Wolfhill to Vicarstown.
There was a presentation of certificates for all members of the Kayaking and Canoeing club who took part in the beginners programme in April and also for the members who took part in the walking programme.
The evening concluded with Ratheniska Comhaltas adult group who put on a session across the road in Crean’s front bar.
Our photographer was on hand to capture the action as it happened – and she even managed to stay dry!
