The 2018 Ski tour from Portlaoise CBS sailed into Artesina in the lower Italian Alps for the first four days of their Easter Holidays.
The party of 74 students and teachers had scheduled a flight from Dublin to Nice and took in some panoramic views of the Cote D’Azur before their bus destination to Artesina.
The now famous Ski resort boasts 90km of downhill skiing with 15 individual pistes, 12 ski lifts ascending to 2,100 metres with an excellent snow cover.
Most importantly, the Scuola Ski provided invaluable training and coaching for the ‘principianti’ or beginners, greatly appreciated by students and teachers alike.
For some of our more experienced skiers who were now on their second and third trips, it was a case of skipping the blues and challenging themselves on the Red and Black slopes of Artesina.
Unusually, despite the warm daily temperatures there was no thaw.
Enjoyment and progress was the name of the game as even our second years sampled La Dolce Vita of their new Italian Culture along with top skiing activity daily.
Our Ski group moved to Prato Nevosa on Thursday night for some ‘Tubing’.
High speed tube sliding down some sheer iced slopes sometimes in groups of 6 or 7 set the adrenaline flowing for a few lads and their teachers also.
An early start Friday morning eventually brought the tour to Monaco and Monte Carlo en route to Nice.
Here the group were treated to the great Marina of Monaco, the Grand Prix circuit and some careful shopping.
Students were already planning their next trip on the bus journey to Nice so it was certainly a tour to remember for the CBS lads.
