A man is understood to have undergone surgery for facial injuries in St James’s Hospital this morning following a serious assault on Saturday in Portlaoise.
The assault happened at 15.10 on Saturday afternoon close to Laois County Council offices.
The injured party is 19-years old.
The victim received significant facial injuries in the assault.
Appeal
Gardaí have appealed to anyone who was in the vicinity on Saturday afternoon and saw anything suspicious to contact them.
The fact that the assault occurred during daylight hours was even more shocking.
