McCarthy O’Hora Architects (MCOH) have scooped a prestigious Silver “Irish Construction Excellence” Award.
The Portlaoise based firm received the award for their design and construction of Scoil Mhuire National School in Tullamore at the gala awards ceremony hosted in the Mansion House on Friday night last.
The prestigious award for the Construction and Design was presented to Carroll O’Keeffe with Killeen Engineering and MCOH Architects, who were one of the 6 finalists, selected nationwide in the Health/Education Category.
The award was presented by Architect Ms. Angela Brady OBE, chair of the judging panel and former president of RIBA – Royal Institute of British Architects.
The award is in recognition of the quality of construction and design.
Congratulations were expressed to the Laois Contractor Carroll O’Keeffe represented by Mr John Carroll and his son Diarmuid, who project managed the school onsite, and to Ross McNamara – Project Architect and JJ Carroll Senior Architectural Technologist representing MCOH Architects.
MCOH Architects, the foremost practice in the midlands and established in 1982, with a staff of 18 have a track record in the design of schools. MCOH were previous LAMA Award winners for Donabate Community College and Navan Education Campus.

They also were responsible for work on the new Holy Family campus at Aghnaharna in Portlaoise along which opened in September.
The massive two school campus has approximately 1,000 students there and was one of the most significant education projects completed in the midlands recently.
MCOH have reminded us that Scoil Mhuire has also been entered for the 2018 RIAI – Royal Institute of Architects in Ireland Awards with results to be announced in June – “watch this space”.
