Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board hosted a dedicated awards ceremony to farmers from Camross and surrounding areas recently.
This group of learners commenced their learning journey a number of years ago with Laois and Offaly ETB, through the Skills for Work programme.
This particular Basic Computers programme was designed specifically for the farming community and incorporates the online herd registration as part of it.
The Camross farmers excelled themselves and progressed to other accredited programmes.
Skills for Work provides free education and training programmes to individuals who are in employment that are seeking to improve their core skills.
Training is offered in areas such Basic Computers, Customer Service, Workplace Maths including Spreadsheets, Finance & Budgeting, Catering & Hospitality Skills and CV Preparation and Interview Skills.
Lisa McEvoy, Adult Literacy Organiser with Laois & Offaly Education and Training Board presented the certificates to the learners on the night.
She noted the fantastic achievement it was for the learners and I can see “there is great camaraderie amongst the group. You obviously enjoy learning.”
The presentation took place in Camross Community Centre which also hosted the Skills for Work programmes.
On the night participants presented flowers to Lisa McEvoy, Adult Literacy Organiser and to ETB tutor Veronica Dowling who started tutoring this group a number of years ago.
Regina Duane, Skills for Work Co-ordinator thanked both Lisa and Veronica as she said that “both tutors and management of Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board play an important role in the successful implementation of Skills for Work programmes across Laois and Offaly.”
