Laois farmers have been left out following the announcement of 250 new places on a Rural Social Scheme.
The incentive supports low-income farmers to carry out community-based work.
The Department of Social Protection revealed an allocation of 10 places in Offaly and two in Westmeath but Laois missed out.
Seamus Boland is CEO of Irish Rural Link and speaking to Midlands 103, he explained the situation.
He said: “I think there will be arguments about it but it is generally most popular in the west.
“This is because most of the small holdings are there.
“Offaly always gets a decent number but Westmeath would be disappointed because there are a number of small holdings there too.
“And again the same for Laois where there are many parts that are the same.”
