The State Pathologist is on her way to Mountmellick after a man was found dead at his own home in the town.
A house in St Joseph’s Terrace is cordoned off after the discovery of a man in his 60s and Gardai are at this scene this Sunday morning.
St Joseph’s Terrace is is an estate in a quiet cul de sac opposite St Vincent’s Hospital in the town.
“We’re treating it as sudden death but it is warranting further investigation,” said a Garda source. “The man is well known in the area.
“We are getting the assistance of the State Pathologist’s office. If anyone has any information we would ask that they get in contact with Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 8674100.
It’s believed the man was found dead at the door of his house and the State Pathologist Marie Cassidy is on her way to the scene.
Her role will be to establish the cause of death.
