Every two years, Portlaoise CBS A go on a trip to Zambia where they work as volunteers.
The school brings a group of boys to Livingstone to experience what it is like to teach and volunteer, as part of the Zambia Immersion Project, run by the Christian Brothers.
In February 2019, the CBS will bring 16 students down to Zambia once again.
In order to go, you must first raise €1,200 and one student, 16-year-old Adam Duffin, has launched a GoFundMe page in order to reach his goal.
He said: “I put myself forward to take part in this project because I’d like to assist those who’re less fortunate than myself.
“I’d like to think if I could make one person smile that I’d be doing a pretty good job.
“Also getting to experience Africa first hand has always been on my bucket list and to do it in this manner would be fantastic.”
Adam has set up a GoFundMe page and he says that once he reaches his target, he will raffle off a big prize for all of those who donated.
He said: “In order to travel to Zambia I have to raise €1200. To do this I set up a Go Fund Me campaign.
“When I reach my goal I will be raffling off a 2019 Electric Picnic ticket as a thank you.”
