Current Wexford hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald will be the guest speaker at an event later this month in the Midlands Park Hotel in Portlaoise.
An Evening with Davy Fitzgerald will take place in the Midlands Park Hotel on Monday, March 26.
Fitzgerald, who managed his native Clare to an All Ireland in 2013 and was the goalkeeper on their All Ireland-winning teams in 1995 and 1997, is in his second year in charge of Wexford.
He guided them to the Division 1 league semi-final last year and Leinster final and has overseen an impressive start to this year’s Division 1A campaign.
He’ll be intereviewed on stage by RTE’s Hugh Cahill, who presents 2FM’s Game On show and a number of their other sports coverage as well including rugby and horse racing.
Hugh has strong Laois connections as he’s married to Louise Fennelly, who is daughter of Teddy Fennelly, former owner and editor of the Leinster Express.
The connections to Fitzgerald come via Colm and Anthony Neville, the new owners of the Midlands Park Hotel who are from Wexford. They took over the hotel last year and re-branded it from the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel to the Midlands Park as well as investing €7m into a redesign.
Tickets for the event cost €10 and all money raised goes directly to the Leinster Council’s injured player’s fund. Doors open at 7pm.
