Confirmations in a number of parishes in Laois are in danger of not going ahead this weekend due to the incredible amount of snow that has fallen in the county.
All schools in Leinster and Munster have been ordered to close until Monday by the Department of Education.
While schools with confirmations scheduled for this weekend are being advised by their dioceses to make a decision in a timely manner.
Camross Confirmation takes place this Sunday, and is still going ahead as planned.
However, Stradbally’s Confirmation this Saturday is still in discussion at the moment and they are trying to come to a decision what to do due to the bad weather.
St Colman’s in Stradbally said via their Facebook page that they would make a call on Friday evening.
Fr Michael Murphy, who acts as the media spokesperson for the Kildare and Leighlin Diocese, said it is up to each area to decide the appropriate course of action.
However it’s not only the local schools and parishes that are being affected by this.
Local bakeries, restaurants and catering services have all asked customers to notify them in advance if they need their orders postponed to a later date.
While the worst of the current cold weather is only expected to last until Friday evening, driving conditions will still be difficult and this will also be a factor for schools in their decision.
