It endured an incredible on-off saga for the best part of two weeks but now that the Portlaoise St Patrick’s Day parade is definitely taking place, it’s full steam ahead to get everything organised.
Today the committee have announced their Grand Marshalls for this year’s parade and they’ve made a very good choice.
“The students of St Francis School, Portlaoise will be honouring us as Grand Marshal this year,” said the committee in a post on Facebook.
“We are delighted to have them with us and we are looking forward to having them in our parade.
“Special word of thanks to the staff of St. Francis School and their Principal, Malachy McNulty.”
The Portlaoise St Patrick’s Day parade is again expected to attract huge crowds and the town will be busy from early in the day due to the hugely popular Streets of Portlaoise 5km run that will be taking place again.
There are also a number of other parades taking place around the county on St Patrick’s Day.
