A person has been killed following a car crash near Ballickmoyler – on the N80 road between Stradbally and Carlow – late last night.
The two-car collision happened at about 10pm and Gardai and ambulance services attended the scene.
A 48-year-old woman and driver of one of the cars died at the scene.
The driver of the second car, a man in his 40s, was taken by ambulance to Tullamore Hospital with serious injuries.
The N80 will be closed between Ballickmoyler and the townland of Coolhenry until late on Saturday morning to allow Gardai carry out their investigations. Local diversions are in place and Garda forensic collision investigators will examine the crash scene this morning.
