There was a star-studded line up and a whole hosts of guests at a Brexit forum held in the Heritage Hotel in Killenard recently.

The speakers included Tanaiste Simon Coveney, MEP Mairead McGuinness, Ciaran Finane from Finline Furniture, IFA Director General Damian McDonald and former Fine Gael leader Alan Dukes.

The event was hosted by Kildare South Fine Gael TD Martin Heydon and was facilitated by local Councillor Tom Mulhall.

A large crowd gathered in Killenard on the night and they were treated to a host of informative speeches.

The speakers each have a vast experience of negotiations at European level and deal with the daily challenges that Brexit poses to both business and agriculture in Ireland.

The event was one of the first signs of the new political constituencies which will see over 10,000 Laois people – from Killenard, Portarlington and Ballybrittas – voting in Kildare South in the next General Election.

There are currently three TDs in Kildare South – Martin Heydon (Fine Gael), Fiona O’Loughlin (Fianna Fail) and Sean O’Fearghail (Fianna Fail) – but that will increase to four the next time.

As the current Ceann Comhairle, Deputy O’Fearghail will be automatically re-elected.

And on the night, our photographer was there to capture the best of action:
