Gin is all the range at the minute and one of Laois’s oldest establishments has launched their own brand.
‘Treacy’s Irish Gin’ is gluten free and is described as being extra dry.
The Treacy family who own and run one of Ireland’s oldest public houses were inspired to keep up with the trends and decided to create their own product.
After a year of hard work, the Treacy family have crafted their very own 40% extra dry, botanical gin that they are proud to put their family name on.
Treacy’s teamed up with Schweppes (a carbonated mineral water company owned by Coca Cola) in order to serve the perfect G&T.
Schweppes have recently launched a new range of tonic water, which compliments Treacy’s Irish Gin.
For the perfect G&T, Treacy’s suggest a glass full of ice, a measure of Treacy’s Gin mixed with cucumber or natural flavoured tonic, blueberries and lemon slice.
Niall Treacy, the eight generation of the family, said: “Keeping up to date with trends and adapting to customer needs and wants is the real secret behind our business success.
“Gin at the moment is in demand and to have our own product with the Treacy family name allows our customers from all over the world to take a bit of The Heath home with them.”
The most recent study by the Taste.ie states that gin sales have increased by 31% in the last two years.
As gin is so popular, Treacy’s are incorporating their gin into their recipes throughout their restaurant.
Treacy’s Irish Gin is produced in St. Patricks Distillery, Douglas, Co, Cork.
They said: “Tom (Tommy Treacy) came to us looking for a particular type of gin, which we were happy to formulate especially for Treacy’s.
“This is an extra dry gin, in the style of a London Dry, which isn’t as sweet as many other gin types.
“Distillation removes most Gluten, but for celiacs and those intolerant to grain, it’s always better to select drinks that are naturally grain and gluten free, as this allows for the creation of Totally Gluten Free mixed drinks and Cocktail options.”
Treacy’s Irish Gin is on sale in Treacy’s Bar and Restaurant and The Gandon Inn.
A 70cl bottle of Treacy’s Irish Gin would make an excellent gift for a friend costing just €36 or a single measure in the bar for €4.50.
