The death has occurred of Dick Slevin, a founding member of the O’Dempsey’s GAA club and a man extremely well known in Laois GAA circles.
Aged in his late 80s, Dick was president of O’Dempsey’s at the time of his death and was a visible presence at their games of all grades right up to and including last year’s championship.
He was also a great supporter of Laois teams and a regular in Croke Park, attending over 50 All Ireland finals in succession, many of them with his regular travelling partner, his cousin John Fitzpatrick from The Heath.
He served as the O’Dempsey’s County Board delegate for many years and represented the club at the Annual Convention every from the club’s foundation up until about four years ago.
Dick played minor with Laois and with O’Dempsey’s for many years. He was part of their teams that won junior and intermediate titles in the early 1950s, playing alongside Jack Kenna, one of the all-time greats of Laois GAA.
