Work set to begin on €850,000 Mountmellick Wastewater upgrade

Work on an €850,000 upgrade of the Mountmellick Wastewater Treatment plan will begin this week – and is expected to be completed by the end of this spring.

Minister for Justice and Equality Charlie Flanagan has welcomed the commencement of the project.

“I very much welcome the confirmation from Irish Water that it is in a position to commence works to upgrade the Mountmellick Wastewater Treatment Plant. This is good news for the town”

“These works will improve the treatment processes at the Mountmellick plant, while also improving the quality of treated water discharged into the Owenass River.

“(This) is very welcome from an environmental and ecological point of view.

“Works will ensure that the plant functions in line with similar plants and is fully compliant with the EU Urban Wastewater Directive”

Irish Water has confirmed that the works will commence on February 5 and is due to be completed by the end of Spring 2018.
