In the song the old man is talking to a young man in New York. The old man asks, “‘Son, forgive me,’ do you come from County Laois.”
The old man mentions the places in Laois he misses dearl. He says, “Give my love to Emo,” “Make a wish for me beside the Rock of Dunnamaise,” “Smile on Ballybrittas and just tell her it’s from me,” and “Light a little candle in the Church in Clonaslee.”
