Warm tributes have been paid to long-serving Stradbally fireman Liam Kelly, who retired from Laois Fire and Rescue Service after almost 30 years serving his community and county.
Station officer Kelly handed over his pager the day before New Year’s Eve to Darren Moran who has taken over the role.
The Stradbally man was an extremely popular and dedicated firefighter who took up duty in 1988.
He was station officer in Stradbally for the past six years.

A spokesperson for Laois Fire and Rescue Service said, “His dedication to keeping the community safe over the years is beyond compare and he will be sorely missed.”
Liam has also worked as a Community Employment Supervisor for 27 years.
Liam’s passion for the role was passed on to his son Philip who is a member of Portlaoise Fire Service.
Best of luck to Liam on his retirement and well done on so many years of service.
