Gardai are pleading with motorists to slow down this morning as overnight weather has caused chaos.
We’ve already had two crashes this morning as the roads have turned into ice rinks.
It took this reporter almost 50 minutes to travel from Stradbally to Portlaoise with snow and ice lying on the main road.
Indeed, a car left the road on the N80 between Stradbally and Portlaoise earlier this morning.
There was also a crash on the M7 Dublin-Limerick Road southbound between Junction 17 Portlaoise Centre and Junction 18 Portlaoise West.
Thankfully, both accidents have been cleared and no injuries have been reported.
The chaos comes as Storm Fionn is about to bare down upon us from this afternoon.
Strong winds are expected throughout the day with rain also, and there is a Status Yellow wind warning for Munster, Leinster and Galway from 6pm.
Very strong winds will occur this evening into the early hours of tomorrow.
The rain is expected to turn to sleet and snow in the north leading to significant accumulations.
