Six puppies who were left on the side of the road on the coldest day of the year have been rescued.
The Akita dogs, which are six or seven weeks old, were found cold and whimpering in a box thrown in a bush in Portlaoise on Monday, January 8.
Dog Coordinator for Laois SPCA ,Geraldine Lanigan, told Midlands 103 that foster homes have been found for all six.
She said: “The poor things were numb with fright more than anything else.
“On Monday they were hardly able to move, they were too afraid to move.
“Now that they’re with their fosterers you can start to see their personalities come out.”
It’s believed they were bred for Christmas but were too young to sell.
