The major coup by the Slieve Bloom GAA club to recruit two Limerick hurling legends as part of their management team will now not go ahead.
Last week it emerged that Ciarán Carey had taken up the role as their intermediate hurling manager and he was to be assisted by fellow Munster man Mark Foley.
However, the club announced this morning that the dream management team will now not be in charge for 2018.
“Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances Ciarán Carey and Mark Foley will not be in place for the coming season,” club chairman Joe Heffernan.
Carey, who has a long list of training and managerial experience, holds previous connections with the club after taking some training sessions during their Junior A championship winning season in 2016.
Limerick
Ciaran Carey played for Limerick from 1989 up until 2004, winning two Munster titles, two National Hurling League titles and picked up three All-Stars along the way.
He was also central to Patrickswell’s success throughout the late 80s and their domination of the 90s in Limerick club hurling.
He lost an All-Ireland club final in 1989 against Glenmore of Kilkenny.
Carey was at the heart of Limerick’s hurling team in the 90s where he lined out at centre-back.
His most iconic moment was his game winning point against Clare, the All-Ireland champions, which led Limerick to Munster Final glory in 1996.
