Rathdowney library might be in line for major remodelling if the funding is available.
The issue was raised by councillor John King at a recent Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick Municipal District meeting.
Long awaited
Cllr King said that the library is one of the last in the county to get upgraded and badly needs renovations.
He said, “It is up to us as a council to have them up to standard and it is one of the last libraries in the county to get a revamp.”
The cllr asked for roof repairs, painting and insulation work to done on the widely-used library.
Director of Services Donal Brennan said that the council carried out heating improvements at the library during the past year.
“We will examine further improvements in the light of any national grants that may become available in 2018,” he added.
