Just as it does every St Stephen’s Day, the town of Abbeyleix was taken over by horses, hounds and horsemen and women today for the annual Laois Hunt event.
And as well as those taking part, there were many interested onlookers, including current Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council Padraig Fleming and his Fianna Fail party colleague and local councillor John Joe Fennelly.
With weather conditions favourable and the Christmas day rain giving way for bright but cool conditions, there was a good turnout to take part.
The Hunt came through the town from the Durrow side and our photographer was on hand to capture a selection of great images on another great day for the Laois Hunt.
Meanwhile, up the road in Ballyroan, over 200 people took part in the Ballyroan-Abbey GAA Club’s Christmas 5km Family Fun Run which was organised in conjunction with the local Ballyroan-Abbeyleix and District Athletic Club.
There was also annual walks in Clonaslee and Durrow as well as a number of St Stephen’s Day hurling, football and soccer games around the county – including The Harps, Abbeyleix, Camross, Timahoe, and Annanough GAA clubs as well as Stradbally Town soccer club.
