One of Knockbeg College’s most loved teachers is set to retire this Christmas.
English teacher Mr John Behan will walk out of Room 8 for the final time this week at the end of the current term.
Behan has been an ever present in Knockbeg for the last few decades and has put thousands of students through his hands.
His love of English has inspired so many, including yours truly, to go on and forge careers in industries where writing is appreciated.
A keen athlete who competed and still competes in marathons, Behan is a man who has time for everybody and he is a character who Knockbeg will find impossible to replace.
And now the Knockbeg Social Committee are calling on past pupils and teachers to help them create a memory book to present to John.
They say: “As you may be aware John Behan is retiring this Christmas. To mark this special occasion, we as the Knockbeg Social Committee are hoping to create a memory book for John.
“We would really appreciate it if you could take the time to forward on your memories, wishes or any photographs you may have to be included in this book.
“We would also be grateful if you could spread the word to other past pupils who you think would also like to contribute.
“Please forward your memories along with your name, graduation year and area you lived in while attending Knockbeg to Kbegsc@knockbegcollege.ie or jmaye@knockbegcollege.ie
before January 5. Thank you.”
All of us here at LaoisToday would like to wish John a very happy retirement also.
