Gardaí have arrested a third man in the case of false imprisonment and assault in Mountrath.
The arrest happened on Sunday and he has become the third person arrested following the incident which took place on December 5.
They previously had held two men in relation to the crime last Tuesday.
They were both detained at Portlaoise Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.
The victim was a member of the security personal employed at the Irish Rail compound in the area.
The assault occurred when the victim, who arrived for work, was approached by a number of men who assaulted him and locked him into his car boot before they made good their escape.
The compound is in a rural area and the assailants left the area in a vehicle.
This is the third arrest in relation to this on going investigation.
