St Mary’s CBS Portlaoise have released a statement to allay parents fears after rumours about a possible attack on students and teachers circulated online.
The school say that a message was written on a toilet wall yesterday detailing how some students planned to close the school, similar to an incident in Kilcock a few weeks ago.
That Kildare school was forced to close last week after a message threatening a mass shooting was found on a toilet wall.
We understand that the message on the wall in the Portlaoise CBS toilet read: “On this day, which you do not know, Monday to Friday, teachers and students will be in great danger.”
The school held an assembly today where the students were assured that they were under no threat.
The statement read: “We investigated immediately & dealt with all students concerned. By 3pm yesterday we were 100% certain that it was a harmless prank.
“Very few of the student population were aware of the incident while in school.
“However, Social Media later blew the incident out of all proportion.
“I would like all families to know that IF I WAS IN ANY DOUBT that anyone was in danger, all necessary steps would have been taken in the interests of health and safety.
“However, this was never the case. We did not put out any unnecessary messages at that time due to the sensitivity and rights of those concerned.
“Finally, I would like to assure all of our school community that any threat to the health and safety of our students is always taken very seriously and dealt with appropriately.”
