‘Extreme caution’ urged on the roads in treacherous condition

Durrow
Road users and pedestrians are warned to take extreme care with “treacherous conditions” on roads and slippery paths, where ground snow has frozen as temperatures plummeted to -10 degrees in some areas overnight

A number of schools are closed around the county and some bus and train services have been disrupted.

Severe frost will linger in many parts of the country today.

“The snow-covered landscape is contributing a massive amount to heat loss to space under the clear skies,” said the Laois Weather Facebook page which operates a Met Eireann station in Durrow.

“Anyone driving in the morning should exercise huge caution, especially crossing Motorway bridges and fly-overs.”

“We have a status orange warning out so there will be some hazardous conditions for driving.,” said a Met Eireann spokesperson.
