Laois is among the counties that have been issued with a warning from Met Eireann to expect “significant falls of snow” tonight and early on Sunday morning.
This is an update on a previous warning with Met Eireann saying, “Significant falls of snow are expected Saturday night and into Sunday.
“Accumulations of 4 to 8 cm could occur quite widely with greater totals possible.
“Drifting snow locally at times too with brisk winds. Slippery paths and treacherous roads also due to snow accumulation and ice.
The warning is in place for Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Galway, Mayo, Roscommon and Tipperary.
The warning is valid until 11pm on Sunday night.
Local sports organisations have postponed most of their fixtures for Sunday – with all of the CCFL soccer games and the Leinster League rugby games called off.
The Leinster club football final between Moorefield of Kildare and St Loman’s from Westmeath is scheduled to take place in O’Moore Park with Leinster GAA expected to make a call on that game tomorrow morning.
