Some absolutely shocking images of illegal dumping in the countryside have just emerged.
One of our readers was out for a walk this morning when he encountered a sorry sight.
Paddy Fitzpatrick, from Abbeyleix, was out for a walk around The Heath this morning when he came across the mess.
Speaking to LaoisToday, he said: “I was out for a walk this morning along the old Dublin Road up Near Treacy’s Bar & Restaurante.
“I walked past a small lane way used by local farmers in gaining entry to their property, when I saw a few items of rubbish at the top of the lane.
“But as i went further down into the lane i was horrified as what I came across, there was rubbish everywhere.
“It seems to be a dumping area around The Heath over the years but its getting worse as time goes by.
“I would just like this to be brought to the attention of the Council and the community of Laois people.
“These people who dump rubbish like this are doing considerable harm to our natural wildlife and are also destroying our countryside in the process.”
